Sirius’ 5th anniversary: celebrating engineering milestones and discussing the future of aviation

Celebrating five years of Sirius Analysis at Aerospace Bristol inspired a look at engineering milestones and the future of aviation.

Last week, Team SQEP Ltd had the privilege of joining Sirius Analysis Ltd to celebrate their impressive 5-Year Anniversary. Congratulations to Carl Dalton, David Bangert, Jo Llewellyn, Tom Baldwin, and the entire Sirius team on this great achievement and a wonderful evening!

To mark the occasion, we gathered at Aerospace Bristol, home to the iconic Concorde. Stepping inside this engineering masterpiece was a powerful reminder of how innovation and technology can reshape industries. As we celebrated, the Concorde sparked conversation on its groundbreaking achievements and what the future holds for high-speed travel.

Though the Concorde was retired in 2003 due to a combination of safety, cost, and environmental challenges, its legacy still looms large. Some remarkable stats to put its impact into perspective:

  • The British Airways Concorde operated with just 6 cabin crew, 2 pilots, and 1 flight engineer.
  • The fastest-ever crossing clocked in at 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 59 seconds from London Heathrow to JFK Airport in New York on February 7, 1996.
  • Cruising at 1,350 mph, it exceeded twice the speed of sound!
  • Flying at 60,000 ft, passengers could see the curvature of the Earth.
  • During flight, the Concorde’s airframe would heat up, causing it to stretch by around 20 cm!
  • To accommodate these temperature changes and effectively dissipate heat, the aircraft was coated with a specially developed white paint.

As we reflect on these achievements, we can’t help but wonder: With today’s advancements in technology, what will the next iconic aircraft look like? What will be the next milestone in high-speed commercial aviation?

What do you think the future holds for the next generation of aviation? We’d love to hear your thoughts!
