Expertise Across the Space Lifecycle

SQEP supports the space sector across the full mission lifecycle, from launch and deployment through to in-orbit operations and re-entry. Our capability areas cover the specialist disciplines needed to assess risk, demonstrate compliance and support safe, resilient space operations.

Spaceports & Launch Vehicles

Space launch safety is highly regulated, protecting the uninvolved public during activities at the spaceport, as well as during lift-off and the downrange trajectory. Ground Safety Analysis and Flight Safety Analysis are key components in demonstrating compliance with these requirements.

SQEP provides the expertise needed to develop safety cases for spaceports and launch vehicle operators, demonstrating that Major Accident Hazard risks are As Low As Reasonably Practicable as part of the licensing process.
Satellite Assurance

Satellites need to demonstrate that they will operate reliably on orbit, from design and manufacture through integration and deployment. A Satellite Assurance Case considers the spacecraft alongside the ground station and connectivity, as well as the hazards presented by the space environment and other satellites.

SQEP develops and reviews Assurance Cases, bringing together the relevant legislative, regulatory, liability and insurance requirements with the evidence needed to substantiate the claims.
Environmental & Space Sustainability

Environmental impact is highly regulated across the space industry, with environmental assessment forming part of spaceport and launch operator licensing. This can include the effects of spillages, noise and emissions at the spaceport, as well as the environmental impact of rocket booster stages following separation.

Space sustainability also considers the responsible use of space as the number of objects in orbit increases. SQEP provides environmental assessment expertise to spaceports and launch vehicle operators while supporting wider efforts to manage the growing challenge of orbital debris.
Space Cyber & Information Assurance

Space cyber security protects satellites, ground stations and space-based networks from threats that could affect communications, navigation and critical infrastructure. As technologies and threats evolve, assurance needs to consider both the systems themselves and the environments in which they operate.

SQEP provides cyber and information assurance expertise across spacecraft, connectivity and networks and ground stations, analysing threats and assessing compliance with space cyber security standards. This includes consideration of the security of products, environments and partnerships.
Space Product Assurance

Product Assurance is central to the safety, quality and reliability of space missions. SQEP provides Product Assurance Management in line with ESA standards, verifying compliance with PA requirements and ensuring materials and components are fit for purpose throughout the mission lifecycle.

An effective PA Plan brings the different assurance activities together. SQEP provides expertise across safety, software, quality assurance, dependability, EEE and MMPP, supporting the evidence needed to demonstrate that products meet the required standards throughout the mission.
Space Training

Understanding the risks associated with spaceports and launch vehicles requires the right knowledge at the right level, alongside an understanding of the regulations that govern their operation. SQEP uses Training Needs Analysis to identify the requirements for key personnel across the space mission lifecycle.

SQEP provides Space Launch Management training for Government officials, Space Agencies, new spaceport management and satellite operators. Its subject matter experts contribute as visiting university lecturers and have developed up-to-date courses for industry and Governments, alongside bespoke training tailored to client requirements.
