Space presents a different assurance challenge from many established safety-critical industries. Once a system is in orbit, it can be monitored and controlled, but direct intervention is limited. Reliability depends on the decisions made before launch, from design and testing through to integration and operation.
This places greater emphasis on assurance before deployment. Confidence comes from evidence gathered across the entire system, where spacecraft, ground systems, connectivity and operational processes are considered together. Risks must be understood and safety demonstrated throughout the mission lifecycle.
